Competition Details

Your challenge is to step into the role of a professional travel agent and design a memorable Utah getaway from start to finish.

Create a detailed itinerary for a three-day, two-night trip for four people, departing from the University of Utah campus and traveling by personal vehicle. You will have a total budget of $3,000 to plan the experience, including estimated transportation costs, accommodations, meals, activities, entertainment, and other expenses needed to make the trip possible.

The goal is not simply to find the most expensive experiences you can fit into the budget. Think carefully about the travelers' experience from beginning to end. Research your destination, consider seasonal demand and pricing, and build an itinerary that is realistic, well-organized, and worth taking. The strongest entries will balance creativity, attention to detail, financial planning, and hospitality to create an experience that feels both exciting and achievable.

Once your itinerary is complete, you will submit your travel plan along with an expense breakdown and explanation of the choices you made. Judges will evaluate entries based on factors including the quality and detail of the itinerary, budget management, originality, and overall feasibility.

Plan the Adventure. Win the Experience!

The grand-prize winner will receive a $1,000 University of Utah scholarship plus the opportunity to take the trip they designed, with eligible trip expenses covered by the J.W. Marriott, Jr. Institute.

And the opportunity doesn't end with the grand prize. Four runners-up will each receive a $1,000 University of Utah scholarship in recognition of their outstanding entries.
